Here I’m attempting to collate together the main books that have provided me with source material. If you want to travel the same path as me, read the same books as me! I’ll provide Amazon.com links where available, just so you know what you’re looking for. Certainly not because I endorse Amazon.
Don’t be tempted to buy any Kindle editions of the following books, no matter how much cheaper they may be. In the End Times you do not know how long technology is going to be available to you. Always buy paperbacks or hardbacks, second-hand is just as good.
First and Foremost
You need to arm yourself with a good copy of the Holy Scriptures. If you’re a Catholic, you’ll want a version of the Bible with what the Protestants call the Apocrypha (72 books). Although I grew up with the Jerusalem Bible, I wouldn’t recommend it, knowing what I know now. Try the New Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition (NRSVCE), or if you’re from the UK, the Anglicised version (NRSVACE).
NRSV, Anglicised Catholic Edition
If you’re from a Protestant background, the New International Version (NIV) (66 books) is a great starting point.
I would also strongly recommend getting more than one version of the Bible as the differences in translation can help to give a more comprehensive viewpoint on the scriptures. One important aspect is an historical perspective – go for older translations such as for Catholics, the Douay-Rheims version, or for Protestants, the Authorized King James version. These aren’t as easy to read but give a very fresh perspective:
Don’t buy any of the following books until you have a Christian Bible of some sort on your bookshelf!
